At high rpm before the thermostat fully opens, the coolant pressure inside the engine block can hit over 70 psi. This often makes corroded frost plugs leak. The BD rear frost plug plate seals leaks without having to hammer out the old plug. BD suggests installing it when you remove the transmission, but it can also be installed with the transmission in place. Just make sure to check the surface finish on the back of the motor before use.
